I know that the mission of Scorpios (me) is commitment in one form or another, whereas for Libras (Jean) the deal is friendship. These two signs have plenty in common but there is an intensity with Scorpio that Libra often lacks. If you see each sign of the zodiac revealing a part of the natural cycle from the spring - starting at the equinox with Aries all the way through the year to Pisces - then Libra energy is drawing towards Scorpio and away from Virgo. Scorpio energy is drawing towards Sagittarius and away from Libra. This is oversimplified because the placement of the other planets and points in the astrological wheel of life forms the rest of the recipe, but just this much astrology shows why relationships are seldom easy. *

Also, love affairs are a 5th house thing whereas living together becomes an 8th house thing. People will usually be better at one than the other, depends on the state of your houses!

Then there are our parents. Astrology can confirm and add to psychological theories around the impact of parents on children.

Finally, it speaks well of my commitment and Jean’s friendship that we were able to live together mostly happily till the end of her life. I am very keen to address the topic, at some point, of how our society treats older people. I took a front row seat at the aging process and demise of first my father, then my mother then Jean. I saw a time arrive in each of their lives where, had it been possible, they would have checked out in the manner of a much-loved pet whose keeper had shown compassion and mercy. Scorpios especially like to be totally in control of themselves and their lives. I worry that my society will not allow me to live my life in the way I would prefer as I age and die.
